VIDEO AND RECORDING

Record a screen video or animated GIF

SnagFrame Pro can record a screen or window as WebM video with optional audio, or create an animated GIF. Recording and editing stay local on your Windows device.

Start a recording

  1. Activate a SnagFrame Pro license.
  2. Choose Screen recording, or press Ctrl+Shift+V.
  3. Select WebM for video or GIF for an animated image.
  4. Choose the screen or window to share. For WebM, choose whether to include audio. You can also control cursor capture and the countdown.
  5. Start recording, then use the recording controls to stop when you are finished.

Edit and export WebM video

After recording, use SnagFrame's local editor to trim the beginning or end, apply a center crop, and add cursor spotlight or click effects when cursor telemetry is available. Preview the result, then export the edited WebM file.

Create an animated GIF

GIF recording is useful for short, silent demonstrations that can play inline in many support tools and documents. SnagFrame encodes GIFs locally, lets you choose the frame rate and output width, and limits a GIF recording to 30 seconds.

Choose the right formatUse WebM when you need optional audio, better video efficiency, or local trimming and effects. Use GIF for a short, silent loop. SnagFrame does not currently export MP4.

Review before you share

A recording can reveal notifications, customer information, open tabs, passwords, access tokens, or other private details. Review the entire clip before sharing it. SnagFrame keeps recording and editing local unless you choose to share or save the output elsewhere.

Open recording directly

In version 0.1.41, click the fixed video-camera button to the right of the region button in the editor toolbar. This opens the existing recording setup. Recording requires Pro.
